Which GoPros Have Voice Command Feature?

Voice control has been a standard feature on GoPro cameras since the Hero5 was released in September 2016.

Here are the current models that have the voice command feature.

5 Voice Commands That Are Model Specific

These voice commands have changed for the Hero9 and Hero10 Black cameras. 

  1. GoPro Turn On (removed for Hero10 Black)
  2. GoPro, capture (Hero10 Black, Hero9, and all Hero7 models)
  3. GoPro, stop capture (Hero10 Black, Hero9, and all Hero7 models)
  4. That Was Sick (works on Hero8 Black and earlier)
  5. GoPro Burst Mode (works on Hero8 Black and earlier)

The “GoPro Turn On” voice command is unique to Hero9 Black, Hero8 Black, Hero7 Black, Hero6 Black, and Remo with Hero5 Black.

Voice Commands for All GoPro Cameras

Here are the specific voice commands for every GoPro camera with this feature. 


1. GoPro Hero10 Black Voice Commands

The Hero10 Black has 13 voice commands. They include the standard-setting adjustment and start/stop function for video, timelapse, photos, and burst.

Hero10 is GoPro’s newest action camera that shoots 5.3K video at 60fps. Learn more about Hero10.

There are three types of voice commands on the Hero10: Shutter, Action, and Mode Commands.

  • Shutter Command (2). Shutter commands simply begin capturing. They are basically a virtual tap of the Shutter button, starting and stopping capture. 
  • Mode Commands (3). Mode commands switch capture modes. But they don’t begin recording. After switching modes, you’ll have to use an action command (or manually press the shutter) to begin capturing. 
  • Action Commands (8). Action commands allow you to switch between capture methods, without actually switching modes. For example, you can say “GoPro, take a photo” to shoot a still photo right after filming a video. And your camera remains in video mode. 

Here are the specific voice commands for the Hero10 Black. Voice commands 6 to 13 are action commands.

  1. GoPro, capture (Shutter Command). Begins capturing in the mode set on your camera.
  2. GoPro, stop capture (Shutter Command). Only necessary for Video and Timelapse modes. Photo, Burst, and Live Burst modes will stop on their own.

They include the standard setting adjustment and start/stop function for video, timelapse, photos, and burst.

The Hero7 has two unique settings: “GoPro Capture” and “GoPro Stop Capture”. This command isn’t offered on the new models.

Why doesn’t voice control work out of the box?

GoPro cameras ship with the voice control setting disabled. Just turn it on and it will work.

How do you reset the voice command function to start over again? Do you need to reset back to factory settings? Or Do you need to reload updated software? What is the process involved in actually recording your voice please? My voice commands don’t register on my Hero 7 Silver. They started to and then stopped.

I can’t find any instructions anywhere to help you with any of this.
